City of Cedar Hill
The city of Cedar Hill, located in southwest Dallas County on U.S. Highway 67, was named for the stand of cedar trees along Mountain Creek and along the hills of Cedar Mountain. This area borders a portion of the white rock escarpment, 300 mile-long cliff formation that runs through central Texas from the Red River, between Texas and Oklahoma, to just south of Austin. It is a magnificent setting along what was the Old Chisholm Trail. Cedar Hill is 841 feet above sea level, the highest point in Dallas County, and the highest point between Dallas and Galveston. The city offers one of the most beautiful views in Dallas County and easy access to Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington and other growing suburban areas.
The first independent school board for Cedar Hill was founded in 1886, with the first official brick building dedicated in 1888. The Cedar Hill ISD was formally recognized in 1900. The district had four employees and six graduating seniors in the early 1900's. Today Cedar Hill ISD has over 800 employees and had 468 seniors to graduate in 2009.
