Grant 1: “Help;! My students need short non-fiction passages! - $999.98

This project addresses the need for the struggling reader as a true and participating member of the classroom. The reading support teacher and the classroom teacher will find the appropriate topics on the needed reading levels and co ordinate planning the students reading. In this way the strugglers are taught the required non-fiction material at their instructional reading levels. When they return to the regular classroom and encounter the same non-fiction topic in discussions with their peers or in more difficult reading, the chances for success will be greater with their prior exposure to the materials.

Grant 2: “It’s Showtime!” Using Reader’s Theater to Improve Reading Fluency - $997.70

This project will purchase of leveled Reader’s Theater material to be designed for students with reading difficulties including but not limited to those with characteristics of dyslexia and English Language Learners. The materials will be used by SMMART Lab Teams for those students in grade 1-4 who struggle with reading fluency.
