TouchMath Counting: Making Math Fun! Kindergarten TouchMath Counting is a mathematical teaching and learning system that gives children and students a direct interaction with numbers and mathematical concepts. For example, students are given the opportunity to actually hear, speak, see, and touch the numerals. TouchMath Counting in particular uses the numbers themselves to create “TouchPoints” that aid in the counting process, as well as in distinguishing number values. This unique program can not only stimulate mathematical comprehension in students, but construct a solid foundation of learning for children in Kindergarten through the Third grade.
The current Kindergarten curriculum has a strong need for this program. Math can be overwhelming to anyone, but to a 5 year old, it can seem insurmountable. The multi-sensory approach of the TouchMath Counting program can ease the frustration of numbers and mathematical concepts by using a modest, step-by-step process- not to mention the fun of learning by doing. Teaching this system to students at the Kindergarten level will most likely be retained, and utilized, by students far beyond the primary grade levels. It is a problem-solving strategy that can replace the traditional use of manipulatives and finger counting. With that is mind, TouchMath is a more conducive tool for test taking at the campus and state levels.
In conclusion, TouchMath Counting is intended not only to strengthen mathematical concepts and skills in Kindergarten students, but to eventually help them overcome the bemusing fear of math, and hopefully other learning obstacles, at high grade levels. |
