(January 31, 2008) Seven members of the Cedar Hill Boy’s Cross Country team have been selected to run in Australia this summer at the Down Under Bowl Games. The total cost for the trip is $28,000 and the runners have been working hard to fundraise it all. Thus far, the boys have accrued $2,100 in just over a week with their Loose Change Drive Campaign. This drive was featured Saturday, January 26th in the Neighbors section of the Dallas Morning News. They will be set up this Saturday and Sunday (Feb 2nd and 3rd) at Wal-mart, Sports Authority and Kroger in Cedar Hill collecting any “LOOSE CHANGE” you may have!
Also, Chick-Fil-A will sponsor Spirit Nights for our trip every Tuesday night from 5:00-8:00 PM beginning February 5th. PLEASE stop by during the designated time and mention the CEDAR HILL CROSS COUNTRY TEAM, and Chick-Fil-A will donate 20% of your order towards our trip.
(December 2007) The 2007 Cedar Hill Longhorn Cross Country team is coming off the greatest season in its history. As a team, the Longhorns were top 5 finishers in 6 out of their 10 meets and returned to the 5A Region 1 meet for the second consecutive year. In light of their success, seven runners have been invited to participate in the 2008 Down Under Bowl Games to be held this summer in Australia. Juniors Ben Allen, Justin Barnett, Allen Bennett , Kalvin Clark, Caleb Collins, Sophomore Bryan Keese along with Freshman Konner Hartman will be participating. The competition includes the nation¹s top runners from both Australia and the United States. The boys will run in two races while in Australia.
The first competition will be a USA vs. Australia meet, and the second an All-American race which will separate the field into all 50 American states. Our very own, Coach Jason Covarrubias, has also been selected as the State Coach for Team Texas.
Congratulations are in order for two of Cedar Hill finest Cross Country runners—Samuel Lewis and Kayode Popoola. Today, both signed Letters of Intent to Missouri Valley College for Cross Country and Track. Samuel was awarded the team’s 2007 Most Valuable Runner for his outstanding leadership and average of 23rd place in 11 meets. On Oct. 1st, Samuel Lewis was selected as a Dallas Morning News’ Honorable Mention for his first place finish at the Ennis Lion’s Den Invitational. Kayode was awarded the team’s 2007 Most Improved Runner for his impressive time improvements. His two most notable outings were at the James Smith Invitational in Midlothian (16:47 career personal best) and at the Region 1 meet held in Lubbock (improved from 2006 by 1:47).

These signings truly are the highlight of our very successful season!
