Cedar Hill Invitational-October 19, 2007

On Thursday, October 19th, the Cedar Hill Longhorns played host to the biggest meet this school has ever seen.  39 teams ranging from 1A-5A classifications and a few TAPPS schools participated in the Annual Longhorn Invitational held at Valley Ridge Park.  In the Varsity race, the Horns were led by junior team captain Ben Allen who finished in 14th out of 195 runners with his season best time of 16:35.  Samuel Lewis finished shortly behind him at 18th with the time of 16:44.  Kayode Popoola (29th), Allen Bennett (31st) and Danny Blackburn (40th) rounded out the Longhorns top 5 with the times of 17:04, 17:06, and 17:19.  The Varsity team finished 3rd out of a field of 34 teams!

The JV team dominated the race with their top 7 finishing with personal bests!  They were led by junior Caleb Collins who finished in 9th place out of 212 runners with the time of 17:33.  Justin Barnett (11th) and Bryan Keese (13th) were neck and neck all the way to the finish line with times of 17:43 and 17:54.  Dane Hardy (16th), Devion Patton (20th), Dillion Broadnax (21st), and Orlando Rivera (30th) finished with times of 17:57, 18:14, 18:15, and 18:27 respectfully.  The team finished in 1st place out of 25 teams en route to capturing their second meet championship of the season!

Next Friday, October 26th at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie the Longhorns will compete in the 8-5A District Meet for the right to run at the Region 1 Meet in Lubbock.

October 12th Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie

In the Varsity race, Samuel Lewis led all Longhorns with the time of 17:18 which was good enough for a 5th place finish.  He was then followed very quickly by Allen Bennett (8th), Kayode Popoola (12th), Ben Allen (13th), and Kalvin Clark(16th) with times of 17:31, 17:46, 17:49 and 18:03.  The team compiled an impressive 54 points en route to their 3rd meet championship of the year!

The JV team competed in a very competitive race which consisted of 20 teams from 1A to 5A classifications.  The Longhorns had three individuals finish in the top 10 overall.  They were led by Sophomore Bryan Keese who finished the race in 3rd place with the time of 18:50.  Keese was being pushed by Juniors Caleb Collins (5th) and Justin Barnett (7th) who finished with times of 19:00 and 19:09.  Other notable finishers were Dane Hardy and Orlando Rivera who rounded off the teams top 5 runners at 17th and 25th place.  The team finished with an impressive 57 points which was good enough for 2nd place!

October 6th Round Rock McNeil Invitational  

The Varsity boy’s competed in the Gold division race which featured many top 10 teams in the state from 5A to 1A classifications.   The Longhorns goal for the whole weekend was to compete with the best of the best and it truly was an eye opener.  Samuel Lewis finished with the time of 17:18 finishing in 67th place; Ben Allen finished just seconds behind him at 17:21 and 71st place, and followed by Allen Bennett at 76th with the time of 17:26.  The team finished in 20th place.

The JV boys competed in the 4A-5A Varsity race which also featured a couple top 10 teams in the state.  They were led by Caleb Collins who finished a tough course in the Austin humidity at 19:24.  Bryan Keese and Justin Barnett also ran well with times of 19:35 and 19:46 respectively.  The JV team finished 36th overall out of 43 varsity teams.
