NEWS - March 6, 2008

The boys’ varsity soccer team returned to their winning ways on Friday against Arlington Lamar.  Within the first 3 minutes the Longhorns had one goal through a shot from Jarvis Epie.  Lamar did not back down though and soon took a 2-1 lead.  But with 8 minutes left in the 1st half Eduardo Camara nearly broke the Lamar crossbar with a free kick, which a hustling Ben Allen followed up on and put into the net.

The second half was quite a battle with both teams going at each other for the full 40 minutes.  Soon, Eduardo Camara worked his way down the left flank past the Lamar defense and crossed the ball into the 6 yd box.  There was quite a tussle and forward Noah Voelker came out the victor as he pushed the ball past 2 Viking defenders and goalkeeper.

Against Martin, the boys soccer team found itself down 4-0 at halftime.  The second half was a complete different story with the ‘Horns putting pressure on from the start.  This effort was soon rewarded when Eduardo Camara’s corner kick found Noah Voelker’s head and the ‘Horns were on the board.  Soon after Vince Molina was given a beautiful through pass from Clint Ritter and his shot just glanced inches wide of the far post.  Unfortunately, the team did not score anymore, with Martin earning a late goal to give them a 5-1 victory.

The ‘Horns started out well against Duncanville, with the game scoreless in the first 10 minutes.  Duncanville then had a quick 10 minute flurry where they tallied four goals, that was it, as the ‘Horns shut them out the rest of the way.  The boys were almost rewarded twice in the second half, but an excellent save by the Panther ‘keeper kept an Eduardo Camara shot out, and the outstretched toe of a defender kept Jake Ritter from scoring.

The JV Boys Soccer team has made it to the half way point in the season and now stands at fifth place in district, just one point behind fourth. Recent results include a 3-0 loss to Martin and a 4-1 loss to Duncanville. With the second half of the season starting at home on Friday, February 22 at 8pm, the team anticipates making a strong finish to move up in the standings.

The varsity boys’ team faced 2nd place Sam Houston on Friday.  Although they competed fiercely, it was not to be their day.

Tuesday saw the same effort against 1st place Arlington HS.  Eduardo Camara hit a goal early to put the ‘Horns up 1-0, but again it was not to be their day.

The varsity boys’ team faced 2nd place Sam Houston on Friday (2/8).  Although they competed fiercely, it was not to be their day.

The Cedar Hill JV Boys Soccer remain undefeated in district play with a 3-0 record. Recent wins on Friday, February 1st against DeSoto (4-0), and on Monday, February 4th against Arlington Lamar (3-2), give the Longhorns a share of first place with the top teams in the district.

The DeSoto game was highlighted with a hat trick by leading goal scorer Jordan Morado and with an early second half PK goal from team captain Andy Marshall. Assists were provided by Dylan French and Franco Danillo.   The Arlington Lamar game was a bit more competitive with back-and-forth goals keeping the game tied with 3 minutes remaining when Kwame Adu-Wusu finished a Jared Alfaro touch into the box for the winning goal. Morado continues to rack up the points with the two other goals on assists by Adu-Wusu and Isac Cardenas.

On Friday the boys’ varsity team started sluggish against the Desoto Eagles and found themselves at a 0-2 deficit by halftime.  The 2nd half was a completely different story with the ‘Horns putting pressure on the Eagles for the entire half.  This effort was rewarded by a goal from Ben Allen, off a corner kick from Eduardo Camara.  Then, with less than 2 minutes left, the Eagles gave up a penalty kick which Camara put home, and the ‘Horns left with a tie.

Tuesday took the ‘Horns to Cravens field to play the Lamar Vikings.  The ‘Horns were ready from the opening whistle and within the first 6 minutes took the lead.  Eduardo Camara dribbled 3 Viking defenders and hammered home the initial goal.  The pressure was intensified, resulting in 7 straight corner kicks, on which Clint Ritter strode across the Viking penalty box and put home a Camara corner kick.  Lamar did score very quickly, to make it 2-1.  But that was it.  The defense of Noah Voelker, Danny Blackburn, Kevin Barnett, Dane Beyer, goalkeeper Zach Bechdol and Jake Ritter did well in holding the Vikings to only one quality shot in the 2nd half.  Clint Ritter and Vince Molina did an excellent job in midfield to keep possession and distribute the ball to their teammates.  The win puts the ‘Horns in a 2nd place tie with Arlington Sam Houston in the district.

News- January 31, 2008

The Boys JV Soccer team finished its preseason matches this weekend with a defeat by Burleson High School on Saturday, January 27. Although the Longhorns controlled the pace of the game and created more scoring opportunities than the Elks, two goals allowed on corner kicks overshadowed the lone Cedar Hill goal scored by Jordan Morado with the assist coming from Kwame Adu-Wusu.

On Monday, January 28, the Boys JV Soccer team opened district play with a win over Bowie High School. The Longhorns took a 2-0 score into half-time with goals from Morado and Adu-Wusu and assists from Adu-Wusu and Andy Marshall.

Outstanding saves by goalkeepers Jesus Murillo and Kevin Quintana for Cedar Hill and a strong defense throughout the game provided the means to bring home the team’s first district win.

The boys’ started district play in a positive manner with a 2-1 victory over Arlington Bowie.  Sophomore Eduardo Camara struck in the first half, with the assist from freshman Clint Ritter.  Constant pressure led to a free kick right outside of the penalty box in the second half, which Eduardo expertly put over the Bowie wall and into the top 90.  Those strikes bring his tally to 12 goals this season.

The JV Boys soccer team participated in their first games of the season during the Tiger JV Tournament in Irving. Although the results of the games did not favor the Longhorns, the team is definitely on the rise. Jordan Morado and Michael Benavidez combined for two goals in the first two games against Grapevine and Duncanville. And although the Longhorns got out to a late start against Nimitz in the third game, they held Nimitz scoreless in the second half.

The JV Boys also played their first home game on Monday, January 14 against Irving, the champion from the Tiger JV Tournament. Irving was quick to strike getting 4 goals in the first half. But the Longhorns didn’t go down so easy, holding their opponent scoreless in the second half and dominating play. There were several goal scoring opportunities that the Longhorns just couldn’t put away. The JV plays against Seguin on Friday, January 18 at 5:30pm for their first full game away scrimmage.
