April 10, 2008

Friday March 28 the Lady Longhorns knocked Bowie out of the 1st place position by handing them their second loss of the season. The ladies were on the board early with a 6-0 lead after the second inning. They continued to pile it on with back to back triples by Tawnee Gilchrist and Lauren Davidson in the 5th. The final score was 10-2.

On Tuesday April they faced the now tied for 1st place team DeSoto. Longhorn hitters struggled at the plate only squeezing out 2 hits off of DeSoto’s Jessica Newsome. DeSoto got ahead early and stayed ahead winning the game 6-0 The Lady Longhorns face Lamar on Friday, April 04. They need to pile up some wins to get a play off position.

March 6, 2008 The Longhorn softball team lost  two heartbreakers in District play. Friday against DeSoto they made a come back from a 2 run deficit with Tawnee Gilchrist hitting a shot to right field fence that turned into a 2 RBI inside the park homerun to tie the game in the 6th.   In the bottom of the 7th the Lady Longhorns couldn't hold on and DeSoto scored on a basehit to win the game 3-2. Longhorn pitcher, Tawnee Gilchrist, had 10 strikeouts in the game.

 
On Tuesday, the Lady Longhorns came up short against Lamar losing 6-5.  Lauren Davidson went 2 for 3 with a double.
 
The Lady Longhorns face Sam Houston on Friday at home. Varsity at 6pm and JV at 8pm.
 
The 8th Annual Cedar Hill JV Classic is this Saturday at Valley Ridge Park. Come out and watch the top JV teams in the area compete on all four fields at Valley Ridge Park. Games begin at 9:15 and the last game is scheduled for 4:45.  

February 21, 2008 The Lady Longhorns started their season at home against the Gophers of Grand Prairie. They struggled at the plate against Grand Prairie’s pitcher Kay Grace only getting 2 hits. The big hit coming from Longhorn first baseman Tae’leur Cartwright was a triple to right field. Unfortunately there were no longhorns on base and she was stranded at 3rd. The game ended after 5 innings with a score of 15-3.

On Feb 19th Cedar Hill Lady Longhorns struggled again against the Joshua Owls losing 9-0. The longhorns had just 4 hits and could not score leaving 7 runners on base. Defensively the Horns committed six errors allowing 7 of the nine runs to score unearned. The Lady Longhorns will face Plano West at 2pm and Smithson Valley at 6pm in the Allen Tournament Thursday. On Friday they will play Centennial at 11am. Saturday they’ll face Beaumont Westbrook at 3pm and Coppell at 5pm. All games are played at Allen Station Park.
